About Norfolk Diabetes Support

Why this exists, and who built it.

I'm a clinical pharmacist in the UK specialising in type 2 diabetes and metabolic health.

Whilst on maternity leave, I was trying to keep up with my continual professional development and I kept having a recurrent thought: there is so much data!

There is an insane amount of information available on type 2 diabetes and metabolic health now, and it's still growing. There are a plethora of studies, articles, clinical guidelines and genuinely useful content online. But there's also a lot of noise, pseudo-scientific narratives and well-intended people who don't understand individual variation matters in sickness and in health.

The average UK appointment length is 10 minutes. Appointments are also few and far between.

The two points above do not reconcile well.

No matter how good your healthcare provider is, how well intended or knowledgeable, 10 minutes is simply not enough to convey the necessary information. Having multiple specialists caring for the same patient also contributes to fragmented information being passed on, that often leaves the person more confused than they were in the first place.

From what I was seeing, in a lot of cases, there is no clear and sustained continuity of care for diabetic patients.

So I decided to build something to cover this gap as well as I could.

Norfolk Diabetes Support is intended as a "pocket pharmacist" for metabolic woes. It gives evidence-backed answers to your questions, aiming to provide as much support as possible between your appointments. But it personalises the support it offers — it takes into account your existing conditions, medications, diet and lifestyle, working with you to help you achieve your desired goals.

If that sounds like what you've been missing, you're in the right place.
